Umezato, is located south of Shin-Koenji on the Marunouchi line just a few stops from Shinjuku. It is a relatively small district that has nonetheless garnered a reputation as one of the city’s hippest. A focal point for Tokyo fashion, music and art, it is one of the city’s most exciting places to be. Yet, unlike other better-known areas, Koenji manages to retain a welcome low-key, suburban feel, making it feel at once cutting edge and communal. Koenji takes its name from Shukuhozan Koenji, one of the many Buddhist temples that are strewn throughout the area.
