Koenji station is served by the JR Chuo line and nearby Shin-Koenji or Higashi Koenji station is served by the Marunouchi line. The area is a center for small restaurants and "Live Houses" which offer live music as well as having a young population and a suburban underground culture including multiple used record and clothing shops. This is actually where the punk scene started in Tokyo making it a trendy location to reside. In addition, dozens of yakitori restaurants, izakaya, ramen noodle restaurants and bars can be found on the narrow streets and alleys both north and south of the station. The bars and the restaurants in the area are renowned for having a unique layout and feel to them. Finally, nearby parks such as Sanshi-no-mori, Mabashi Koen and Wadabori are especially alluring during early spring when beautiful snows like cherry blossoms decorate predominately. Overall, Koenji is another one of Tokyo’s many treasured neighborhoods with Fontana having numerous apartments in this vicinity.
